Description

The AGV Tourmodular is the new modular helmet from the Italian Helmet Manufacturer AGV It is also the first AGV helmet to ECE2206 certified The helmet is positioned as a more budget-friendly alternative to the AGV Sportmodular the only full carbon modular helmet on the market However this Sportmodular is also one of the most expensive modular helmets on the market And AGV is now launching a somewhat cost-friendlier variant on the market with this helmet The Tourmodular is a touring helmet that is ideal for both short and longer trips Like the AGV Sportmodular the Tourmodular is also prepared for a communication system This means that you can fully hide the Intercom module speakers and a microphone to communicate directly with other riders or listen to music while riding More about this later We also see that the helmet is equipped with a stainless steel micrometric closure Material The AGV Tourmodular has a Carbon-Aramid-Fibreglass outer shell This mixture of fiberglass and organic fibers not only makes the helmet very strong but also keeps it light-weight The helmet comes in 7 sizes and 3 shell sizes The number of 3 outer shell sizes is fine because this ensures that the helmet always fits compactly around the head This is not only safer a compact helmet also looks nicer It also has 2 EPS inner shells with 5 densities This means that the helmet is prepared for different types of impact and provides an exceptionally good impact absorption which makes the helmet very safe We also see that the chin guard is designed in such a way that it avoids unintentional opening Also the shape of the helmet has been designed to prevent impact being directed to the collarbone in the event of an incident which is often a vulnerability for a rider Another strong point of the Tourmodular is that it is P/J certified This means that it is also approved as an Open-Face helmet and you can therefore ride with the chin guard up It regularly happens that we have customers in the showroom who think that you can ride with any flip-up helmet open this is absolutely not the case A helmet must be P/J certified if you want to be able to ride with it open We generally only see this with the better Flip-Up Helmets Weight As a rider you want a helmet to be as light as possible This gives a nice riding experience and prevents fatigue in the neck especially on longer rides that you are more likely to make with a Touring helmet AGV claims a weight of 1620 grams When we weighed the size M ourselves we saw a weight of 1665 grams on the scale If we compare this to its direct competitors we see that it ends up a bit in the middle The AGV Sportmodular is by far the lightest helmet here with an extraordinarily light 1341 grams All in all the Tourmodular does quite well in terms of weight Visor Another important part of a motorcycle helmet is the visor In this case we have two visors The outer visor is the GT3 Visor for AGV Tourmodular This is the same visor as on the Sportmodular It is an anti-scratch wear-resistant clear visor Furthermore the Tourmodular comes with a Pinlock Maxvision 120 Lens in the box This is the best kind of Pinlock lens This prevents fogging of the visor and this always ensures a clear view we always like to see manufacturers include the pinlock lens standard in the box and even better when this is a maxvision 120 Pinlock With the AGV Tour Modular Helmet we see a simplistic visor mechanism of a decent quality This is the same visor mechanism as the Sportmodular The mechanism which partly consists of a metal frame pulls the visor tight against the shell so that wind and noise are kept out even better Furthermore the visor mechanism offers the possibility to lock the visor in a cracked position which is nice when you ride in the city The mechanism has 4 different positions Furthermore the Tourmodular is equipped with an integrated sun visor which you operate with a slider on the side It is good to see that it slides far down which is nice with a low hanging winter sun In rainy weather you often see that some rain remains on the top of the visor On the highway you see with many helmets that there is a lot of pressure on this stagnant water and as a result it creeps into the helmet The Tourmodular has solved this neatly It has been water jet tested to completely keep out this creeping water A quality detail that we see is the rubber inner edge to which the outer visor connects With some competitors we see that this is made of PVC because PVC is cheaper than real rubber But rubber provides a better connection This provides complete waterproofing that we only see in other quality helmets Comfort If we look at the inner lining we see a removable and washable inner lining The inner lining is made of Shalimar and Ritmo Shalimar is a material that feels soft and comfortable Ritmo on the other hand feels very flexible and fresh The lining on the bottom to keep out the wind cold and noise is made of synthetic leather This synthetic leather is waterproof and abrasion-resistant It has been processed around the edges so that it is water-repellent and moisture wricking The entire inner lining is antibacterial so that it always stays fresh Another point is the so-called patented Rail System of AGV This means that the inner lining can be personalized to the shape of your head The AGV Tourmodular is wind tunnel tested The wind tunnel testing pays off for riding comfort While many of its competitors have been tested in simulation software – which is a cheaper form of testing – to optimize aerodynamics we see that the AGV Tourmodular has been wind tunnel tested resulting in better aerodynamics Good aerodynamics are especially nice because it makes the helmet less noisy and less wind resistance on the highway which in turn makes it feel like you are not wearing a helmet at all There results in less fatigue in the neck and a better riding experience Ventilation The Tourmodular has an IVS or Integrated Ventilation System This consists of 3 ventilation openings on the chin guard and 1 large air inlet on top of the shell All 4 can be closed and the ventilation opening on top of the helmet is adjustable in 3 positions The internal air channels in the chin guard blow fresh air over the visor on the inside There is air exhaust on the back of the helmet The EPS inner shell contains 16 air holes of different diameters that in combination with the ventilation openings ensure a comfortable airflow in the helmet AGV Insyde What we often see nowadays is a far-reaching preparation for a communication systems We see this on helmets like the Shoei Neotec 2 the Schuberth C5 HJC RPHA90S Carbon and some other models Where you normally install a communication module on the outer shell we now often see a compartment in the helmet in which you can hide the communication module This way you dont see any external communication components on the outside and you still have all the conveniences of an intercom system The disadvantage of this is that each helmet has a compartment for only 1 specific communication system You can still build in any other system but it will not be fully integrated into the helmet The AGV Tourmodular is prepared for the AGV Insyde DMC communication system This system is produced by Cardo and is based on the Cardo packtalk Cardos flagship system Until now we saw that SENA communication systems were mainly built in by helmet manufacturers such as the Shoei Neotec 2 and the Schuberth C5 so AGV is therefore the first to offer a fully integrated Cardo system this is sold under its own name the AGV Insyde Communication System It offers both Bluetooth and Mesh network which means that each rider in the network has both a receive and transmit signal A Mesh network is superior to a Bluetooth network So AGV does this very nicely Features AGV Tourmodular Helmet Type Modular helmet Shell material Mix of fiberglass and carbon Visor Scratch-resistant and anti-fog including internal sun-visor and Maxvision 120 pinlock Lens Weight 1665 grams Closure micrometric closure Lining Removable and washable Ventilation Air inlets on the chin guard and on top of the helmet Exhaust on the back of the helmet Certification E22-06 and P/J certified both as a jet helmet and Full-Face Helmet Extra The helmet comes in 7 different sizes and 3 shell sizes
